Feed Efficiency - Beef
Bacterial direct-fed microbials (DFMs) are a research-proven means for cattle producers to improve feed efficiency by two separate modes of action:
A. Propionibacterium freudenreichii strain P63 offers a patent-protected way to reduce ruminal lactate concentrations, increase ruminal propionate concentrations, and therefore improve feed efficiency of finishing beef cattle. This DFM has been proven in both university and commercial feedyard settings.
B. New research indicates that the patented DFM Lactobacillus buchneri strain 40788 has the potential to increase the digestibility of both dry matter and NDF of corn fiber in the presence of added corn grain. This reinforces live-animal performance data that indicates L. buchneri 40788 improves feed efficiency of cattle feed diets which contain high fiber from ethanol byproducts.
