Beef - Rumen pH
- Valuable feeds, such as grains, can be difficult to include in the diet if increased acid loading in the rumen is to be avoided; acidic, brewers grains can make matters worse
- Low-energy intake leads to poor daily live weight gain
- In less-intensive systems, feeding wet, acidic forage to beef cattle can cause acidosis, laminitis, poor feed intake and poor profitability
- Live yeast helps to remove lactic acid from the rumen, thereby stabilizing rumen pH and avoiding acidosis
- As a result, trials have shown higher dry matter intakes and improved feed efficiency, resulting in cattle with better daily live weight gains
