Yeast Culture
A Yeast Culture is defined as a dried product composed of yeast and the media on which
it was grown, dried in such a manner as to preserve the fermenting activity of the yeast.
The media must be stated on the label.
Key points to remember:
- Yeast culture products contain negligible yeast viability and includes the media
on which it is grown
- Yeast culture products have no direct probiotic effect
- They are fed solely for their nutritional value
- In order to improve rumen fermentation, cultures rely on dead yeast cells, the
media on which the yeast was grown and the metabolites made by the yeast
during a fermentation process
